Spreading the Faith
Some of the Damned go on the road motivated by ideology
rather than necessity. It takes a powerful passion to inflame a
dead heart. Once the fire is lit, however, a being who has
faced death and defied it is not easily daunted by the prospect
of driving 300 miles to Tupelo.
Some Carthians and Acolytes
fall in this category. They’ve found something worthwhile,
something that gives their Requiem meaning, and they feel
duty-bound to spread the word. It could also be that maybe
it’s not a recognized Kindred belief. Maybe it’s a sanguinary
version of Orthodox Judaism complete with ritually purified
feeding implements. Maybe it’s a new fusion of the
Coils of
the Dragon and Kabbalistic spirit vibrations or Sanctified
Marxism. Whatever the ideology, the Kindred is keen to spread
the word and convert the unbelieving masses.
Kindred who take to the highway to spread their beliefs are
typically driven by one of two motivations. The first is the
optimistic impulse; they think the Damned elsewhere will be
more receptive to the message. Based on the Bible verse that
no prophet is accepted in his hometown, they travel in order
to find a fresh audience. If nothing else, the fearsome reputation that travel holds for vampires tends to give wild-eyed
pilgrim preachers additional credibility. Someone who traveled from far away, braving terrible danger in order to share
his beliefs, stands a better chance of piquing the interest of
the typical, jaded vampire at the very least.
On the other hand, some evangelists take to the road because they’ve alienated the Kindred at home. This is the pessimistic impulse; they think the Kindred who know them are
too prejudiced to be converted. Given the intolerance many
established covenants (like the Sanctified) exhibit, someone
with fresh new ideas may hope for a kinder reception in a
town less married to venerable old ideas.
Так что среди всех могут быть.
